The best tablet is the one your machine actually allows.

Cleaning tablets remove coffee oils. Descaling tablets remove mineral scale. We separated the two jobs, checked the current maker codes and built a safer UK shortlist.

Never swap one for the other.

A coffee-oil tablet is not a descaler, and a descaler is not a brew-group cleaner. The manual for your exact machine—and its stated product code—wins over any “universal” claim.

How we selected

Fit before price, pack size or popularity.

These are not claimed performance winners. We prioritised current products with clear manufacturer instructions, identifiable codes and a sensible UK buying route.

Amazon buttons open a search for the named product because sellers, pack sizes and stock change. Confirm the exact code and seller before buying.

The compatibility-led shortlist

Nine useful choices, each with a clear job.

01Descaling tablet

Caffenu Universal Descaling Tablets

Best for
A multi-brand starting point when the machine manual permits tablet descaler
Removes
Limescale and mineral deposits in the water path

Best for
Compatible Siemens and Bosch coffee machines after an exact E-Nr check
Removes
Limescale in coffee-machine and hot-water circuits

Compatibility rule: Check the appliance E-Nr on the official compatibility tool before ordering.

03Descaling tablet

JURA 2-phase Descaling Tablets

Best for
JURA machines that request a descale and are not operating with an active filter
Removes
Scale while JURA's second phase is designed to protect the fluid system

Removes
Coffee oils and residue from shower screens and filter baskets
Pack

Philips Coffee Oil Remover Tablets CA6704/10

Best for
Compatible Philips and Saeco automatic machines
Removes
Coffee-oil residue from the brewing unit and coffee path

Best for
Traditional espresso and household automatic machines whose manuals permit chemical cleaning
Removes
Coffee oils from groups, portafilters, baskets and coffee lines

09Cleaning tablet

Caffenu Universal Cleaning Tablets

Best for
A lower-cost multi-brand option where the manual accepts a correctly sized cleaning tablet

Coffee grease and residue, not limescale
Pack
10 × 1.4g tablets

Compatibility rule: Confirm tablet size, dose and cleaning path for the exact model before use.

Important exception

De’Longhi owners may need a liquid, not a tablet.

De’Longhi specifies EcoDecalk liquid for its coffee machines and says the liquid format is easier and faster to dissolve than tablets. Do not buy a tablet merely because that was your original search term.

What should I buy for my machine?

Sage espresso

BEC250UK for coffee oils; use the Sage-approved descaling product specified for the model.

JURA automatic

3-phase cleaning tablet for the clean programme; 2-phase descaling tablet when the machine requests it and filter settings permit.

Siemens / Bosch automatic

00312295 cleaner and 00312574 descaler only after checking the appliance E-Nr.

Philips / Saeco automatic

CA6704/10 for coffee oils; use the exact Philips descaling product and sequence specified for the model.

De'Longhi

Do not force a tablet choice: De'Longhi specifies EcoDecalk liquid for its machines.

Traditional espresso

Use Cafiza only when the manual permits chemical cleaning or backflushing; many domestic machines cannot be backflushed.

Before you run a cycle

Five checks prevent most mistakes.

  1. 01

Match the exact model, product code, tablet size and dose.

  2. 02

Do not mix cleaners, descalers, vinegar or other chemicals.

  3. 03

Keep tablets away from children and follow the handling warnings.

  4. 04

Run every rinse stage specified by the machine or product maker.

  5. 05

Never backflush a machine unless its manual explicitly supports it.
