Kitchen-fit guide

Measure the routine, not only the machine.

A machine can fit the rectangle and still be frustrating. Add the space needed to fill water, load beans, lock a portafilter, steam milk and remove the drip tray.

Independent general guidance · check the manual for your exact machine
01 · Width

Reserve working room.

Portafilter handles, milk jugs and grinder dosing all use space beside the body.

02 · Depth

Protect the counter edge.

Deep machines can leave the drip tray or cup platform uncomfortably close to the front.

03 · Height

Check what opens upward.

Bean hoppers, water tanks and cup warmers may need clear space below wall cupboards.

01

Body dimensions

Record width, depth and height from the same specification source, then mark the footprint on the counter with removable tape.

  • Include protruding handles and plugs
  • Leave ventilation space where required
  • Check the feet fit fully on the counter
02

Water and bean access

Rear tanks and top-filled hoppers often make the practical height or depth larger than the product dimensions suggest.

  • Simulate removing the full tank
  • Check cupboard clearance above the hopper
  • Allow room to pour beans without spilling
03

The grinder question

A narrow espresso machine may still need a separate grinder, knock box, scales and tamping area. An integrated machine combines the footprint but can be harder to upgrade.

  • Measure accessories as one workstation
  • Keep wet and dry zones separate
  • Reserve a safe place for the hot milk jug
04

Cleaning access

Drip trays, brew groups and milk carafes need a clear route to the sink. A machine that must be lifted or turned every day will feel larger than it looks.

  • Pull the tray out on a paper template
  • Check side-door clearance
  • Confirm the power cable reaches without tension
Make a cardboard footprint

A taped or cardboard template reveals depth, door clearance and preparation space more reliably than imagining the dimensions from a product photo.
